The 24-Hour Guide To Great Restaurants Near Times Square

Big national chains might be what immediately stand out for restaurants near Times Square, but there are certainly more dining options to discover in this bustling hub. Whether in New York for a long weekend or a business meeting, having a plan for meals can really help maximize your time…and your taste buds.

Lucky for guests of The Knickerbocker, renowned chef Charlie Palmer (who originally gained fame in 1988 with his three-star Aureole Manhattan and commitment to using regional American ingredients) has covered all the bases — from early morning until late at night — with fresh cuisine in vibrant flavors. And, when you’re headed beyond the hotel, check out our picks in the neighborhood for various times of the day.

Where To Eat Near Times Square

Early Morning Coffee

There’s no better place to get your morning coffee on than underneath the vaulted barrel ceiling at Jake’s. Named after John “Jakey” Astor, Jake’s marble-clad, leather-lined space will leave you feeling fresh and charged for the day. Enjoy custom coffees from La Colombe Coffee Roasters paired with a menu of pastries, granolas, and flatbreads.

Hearty Breakfast

Cafe Un Deux Trois has been serving Broadway cast and crew in shabby-chic Parisian flair for more than 40 years. Until the late morning, head to 44th Street for steak and eggs, omelets, and your choice of several eggs Benedicts underneath the crystal chandelier.

Lunch

Looking for a classic New York midday meal? The original Knickerbocker Hotel was legendary for the “Power Lunch,” and Charlie Palmer at The Knick and will be honoring that tradition once again with a two-course martini lunch making a comeback later in 2022. For something more low-key but with plenty of flavor, Margon on 46th Street is a small Cuban counter-style diner that serves pressed sandwiches and a daily special. Enjoy specialties like the roast pork pernil in this homespun spot known for its authentic style and open Monday through Saturday.

Dinner

Offering pure convenience and standout contemporary American cuisine, Charlie Palmer at The Knick is also a great pre-theater option near Times Square. Outside of the hotel, we also recommend crossing the street for a dinner at Charlie Palmer Steak, Charlie Palmer’s lauded other Times Square restaurant — a neo-traditional steakhouse — near Bryant Park. The restaurant is open for dinner Tuesday-Saturday from 5- 9 p.m

Just one block from The Knickerbocker you’ll find the Michelin-starred restaurant from Chef Gabriel Kruther, featuring Alsatian-inspired fare amidst a surprisingly inviting, yet luxurious, atmosphere in the heart of Midtown.

For more fine French dining, head up to 51st Street and Le Bernardin. Under the helm of Chef Eric Ripert, the celebrated spot is known for refined seafood, impeccably served within an upscale restaurant.

Late Night

With its wrap-around porch, green walls, and cool interiors, the St. Cloud Rooftop is an impeccable spot for a drink at any time of day. In the evening, however, when Times Square is aglow in lights, this space comes truly alive. Creative cocktails like the Lilly Blue with vodka and housemade raspberry cordial are refreshing, and the full menu of bar snacks offers a satisfying trio of ceviches, a well-rounded charcuterie board, short rib sliders, and selections from the raw bar.

At the northern end of Times Square, Aldo Sohm Wine Bar from the team behind Le Bernardin, does not disappoint, for either its wine list or bar snacks. The living room-style space is luxuriously inviting with oversize couches and cushioned bar stools, making you want to decamp for a while. So we suggest you make a reservation. With more than 40 selections of wine by the glass and a veg-forward menu created for pairings, you won’t want to leave.
